2. Hosting (GitHub Pages)

This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit the site, GitHub processes technical data such as your IP address, the time of access and the requested page in order to deliver the site and to keep it secure (server log files). The legal basis is my legitimate interest in providing a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data may be processed in the USA; GitHub’s parent company, Microsoft, is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Further information: GitHub Privacy Statement.

All fonts, scripts and style sheets used for the layout are served from this website itself. No data is sent to third-party content delivery networks or font services when you load the pages.

When you make a choice in the privacy banner, it is stored in a cookie called cc_cookie in your browser for six months, so that the banner does not reappear on every page. This is strictly necessary to remember your choice (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG; Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR).

If you accept “Statistics”, this website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses cookies (_ga, _ga_*, stored for up to two years) to recognise your browser and to produce aggregated statistics on how the site is used (for example pages visited, time spent, device type and approximate location). According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. The data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; § 25(1) TDDDG). Google Analytics is not loaded at all unless you consent, and you can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future via “Cookie settings” in the footer. If you accept “Publication metrics”, the publications page loads badges from Altmetric and Dimensions (both provided by Digital Science & Research Solutions Ltd., London, United Kingdom). Your browser then connects to their servers, which receive your IP address and the identifiers of the publications shown. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). This website links to other websites (for example journals, YouTube, Calendly, Bluesky or LinkedIn). No data is sent to these services unless you click such a link; after that, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.

7. Contacting me

If you contact me by email, I process the information you provide in order to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete it once it is no longer needed.

8. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Baden-Württemberg (LfDI BW).
